Millwall v Bristol City Betting: Lions and Robins Can Continue Decent Goalscoring Form To Cover The Overs
November 15th, 2011 | by Jessica Teakle |
Despite showing glimpses of early season promise, Millwall had generally struggled with consistency and now find themselves in the bottom third of the table in seventeenth. They had enjoyed a recent mini revival until losing 1-0 at Blackpool just before the break, but prior to that the Lions had notched up a hat trick of wins against Leicester, Ipswich and Coventry, amongst a run of five games unbeaten that moved them out of the drop zone. Manager Kenny Jacket has lost Tamika Mkandawire for a spell after the defender recently underwent knee surgery. Forward Josh McQuiod remains sidelined with a thigh injury and John Marquis continues his recovery after having surgery on a hernia. The injury situation has prompted Kenny Jacket to draft in Scunthorpe midfielder Josh Wright on a short term arrangement after the youngster impressed during a recent trial.
Bristol City manager Derek McInnes was a tenacious character in his playing days and after just a month since he made the move south of the border from St Johnstone, he’s already made an impact at his new club. The former Rangers and West Brom midfielder was never one to shirk a challenge and that’s exactly what he was facing at Bristol City who were rock bottom of the Championship when he took over, but seven points from a possible nine have moved the Robins up to third from bottom. A 2-1 win at Barnsley at the end of October was the start of their encouraging run and a tough test was to follow with a trip to Upton Park to face West Ham but the Robins held the promotion hopefuls to a fantastic 0-0 draw. City returned to Ashton Gate just before the international break and ensured their revival continued with a 3-1 win over Burnley. McInnes will give late fitness tests to injured defenders Louis Carey and Jamie McAllister. McInnes has also lost the services of two fringe players after striker Ryan Taylor and defender Nicky Hunt picked up injuries during their midweek Gloucestershire Senior Challenge Cup tie. Taylor sustained a broken metatarsal and Hunt received knee cartilage damage and both players are highly unlikely to return until the New Year.
This is an interesting tussle between two teams who appear to be heading in the right direction in the Championship after poor spells. Millwall won their opening home game against Nottingham Forest way back on 13 August, but failed to win again at the New Den until the visit of Ipswich at the end of October, so to follow that up with another home win over Coventry will give the Lions no end of confidence. Bristol City will also not be short on confidence after their decent run of form and the right result could see the Robins move out of the relegation zone. There’s been no shortage of goals in recent games involving these two teams, the Lions have scored 7 goals in their last two home games and City have scored 5 in three, so I’d say these two could cover the over 2.5 line if they carry on in that vein.
