US Online Poker Domains Seized

April 18th, 2011

Online poker rooms are distinct from online casinos. Online casinos offer games like roulette, blackjack and slots where the players bet against the casino. At online poker rooms players compete against each other with the operator taking a rake. Even if an operator offers both products it is on different portals. However both operate largely in the same technological, financial and legal environment and therefore what affects one can affect the other. An event of major importance occurred with respect to some US online poker rooms that everyone engaged in any form of online gambling should keep tabs on.

Mike Scarborough stops Erik Seidel at the WPT Hollywood Poker Open

April 14th, 2011

< ![endif]-->

I bet you didn’t think that was the headline you’d see today, but yes, Erik Seidel fell just short of yet another victory in 2011 at the latest World Poker Tour stop.

Mike Scarborough emerged victorious over the field of 97 players at the Hollywood Poker Open in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and cashed in for $273,664 when he defeated Seidel in heads-up play. It was a two-week span of poker that many players could only imagine in their dreams, but Scarborough, playing in his “home casino”, simply dominated the action throughout the 2011 Hollywood Poker Open series.

In addition to his win in the main event, he also cashed in for two more titles and a second-place finish in the preliminary events.

Poker’s overcrowded tour schedule creates smaller turnouts at major stops

April 8th, 2011

< ![endif]-->

The North American Poker Tour’s second stop of the year was primed for a big turnout. The recent debacle at the “Big Event” (where the NAPT pulled its branding a week or so before the tournament began) left many believing that official NAPT entries would be rolled over into Mohegan. An impressive 716 players turned out in 2010, which also boosted hopes for this event, but only 387 players would show up in 2011, creating a prize pool of $1.7 million, including a grand prize of $450,000 to be awarded on Wednesday.

The low turnout could be essentially seen as a side effect of the ever-crowded tournament schedule. The NAPT and World Poker Tour both held big buy-in events ($5,000 and $10,000, respectively) which began on Saturday.

April 8th, 2011

Ex-supermodel Christie Brinkley is a 57-years-old mum of three but she could easily pass off as a 30-year-old. When she began her modelling career she was warned that it would be over when she turned 30 but neither has she lost her looks nor her figure. The American model wowed the world in her 1983 video for Billy Joel’s hit Uptown Girl and has since been remembered by this title.

As one of America’s most successful and recognisable models Christie has appeared on the covers of more than 500 magazines worldwide. She’s was also the first model ever to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated for three years consecutively. As a

PokerStars announces “Game of Your Life” promotion to award players a trip to their dream sports event

April 4th, 2011

If there’s one company that actively researches, adjusts and modifies their structures and promotions on a daily basis, it’s PokerStars. Their team is built with a staff of leaders who review and adjust based on every single market change and survey. Their latest new promotion proves it, and once again, should be one of the biggest sign-up drivers that we’re going to see this year. Now, this blog may seem like a blatant shill for the site’s newest promotion, but step beyond that for a second and hear me out. Trust me, I’m not getting any affiliate revenue from these guys.

PokerStars announced on Monday the “Game of Your Life” promotion.
