High Stakes Poker Gets Funny with Norm MacDonald
February 6th, 2011 | by Jessica Teakle |This Saturday the new cycle of High Stakes Poker will premiere and will see a couple big changes to its format including the addition of funny man, Norm MacDonald.
MacDonald, known almost as well for his love of poker and gambling as he is for the years he spent on Saturday Night Live or the films he made, will serve as the new High Stakes Poker host, taking over for former host, Gabe Kapelan. Have no fear, the lovely Kara Scott will reprise her role as HSP hostess with the mostess.
MacDonald’s Saturday Night Live career spanned 1993 through 1997. He was best known for playing the role of anchorman on the “Weekend Update” segments which was previously filled by Kevin Nealon.
MacDonald is no stranger to poker or sports betting for that matter, and has as least two live poker tournament cashes under his belt and is a regular participant in the World Series of Poker Main Event.
Season Seven of the High Stakes Poker will have a $200,000 minimum buy-in with a cap of $500,000 while blinds will stay at $400/$800 with $100 antes. You can expect the action be a bit wilder than the blinds indicate too since as pointed out in this week’s GSN press release, “Straddles were frequent and often multiple. Several players were felted, so rebuys and add-ons were prevalent.”
Additionally, this seventh season was shot and will be shown in 3D for those who have the technology to enjoy it that way. While we’re not really sure what exactly 3D technology brings to televised poker, we’re open-minded and willing to go with it. Besides, we don’t even know anybody with a 3D TV.
If you’re looking for a good cash game but were not invited to any of the episodes of High Stakes Poker, simply download the Sports Interaction free poker software and play at almost any stakes, at any time of day.
