Slow Start To Main Event At WSOP; Hellmuth Falls Short Of Bracelet

July 7th, 2011

The World Series of Pokers main event is now under way, and it started slowly. As has been the case in years past, the first day did not attract as large a field as is expected in the remaining three day ones.

Only a handful of players are playing with six-figure chip stacks and with the blinds at 200/400 with a 50 ante, they’re playing extremely deep. The beauty of the WSOP main event structure is the slow increases that allow participants more play during early action. Even if things haven’t gone your way today and you’re sitting with half the starting stack of 15,000, you would still feel rather comfortable at this level.

Although structure can dictate that pot sizes may be smaller, there have been a number of players who have taken some interesting and aggressive lines preflop.
